Understanding Your Constitution

A homeopathic primer

← Back to the journal

Classical homeopathy rests on a single idea: the same remedy never fits everyone. Two people with the same complaint — the same headache, the same insomnia, the same anxiety — may need entirely different remedies, because the remedy is matched to the person rather than to the symptom.

A constitutional picture is built from your manner, your reactions, your preferences, your temperature, your sleep pattern, your history, and the peculiar details that nobody else notices. It is slow work, and it is why a good intake takes ninety minutes.

What a remedy is — and is not. A homeopathic remedy is a highly diluted preparation of a substance, prescribed on the principle of similarity: the substance whose profile most closely matches your own. It is not a herb and not a drug; it carries no pharmacological dose of the original material.

What this means practically is that the choice matters, and so does the follow-up. A well-chosen remedy that is monitored and adjusted will do noticeably more than one prescribed once and forgotten. That is the whole craft, and it is why we keep notes.
